Falling Water Custom Hand Tufted Rug
Arguably one of our most popular mission style rugs, this piece was inspired by Frank Wright’s design of the Kaufmann Residence. The house which partly sits over a waterfall on Bear Run was built in Southwestern Pennsylvania in 1935. Falling water stands as Wright’s greatest masterpiece for its dynamism and integration with nature. All these elements have been captured beautifully in this simple, hand tufted rug for a serene, tranquil effect.
Border Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Designs for Schumacher
While Wright was widely known for his custom interior furnishing and architectural projects, it wasn’t until the 50’s that he produced a broad range of commercially available wallpapers and textiles. Among these was the more notable Taliesin Line for F. Schumaker that included radical patterns. Our custom mission style rugs are hand tufted and incorporate the Frank’s Taliesin design 105 for the borders. This design is perfect for anyone looking for subtle mid century modern rugs for home or office use.
Guggenheim Inspired Handtufted Custom Rug
If we’re talking Frank Lloyd Wright area rugs, then it would be very unfair to leave out one of his greatest creations. The design for this particular petite loop pile, hand-tufted area rug is inspired by Wright’s design of the Guggenheim Museum Building. This custom mission rug portrays the cylindrical nature of the Guggenheim. And the fact that even though the museum’s exterior looks like individual cylinders, it’s actually one continuous spiral on the inside. This rug fits perfectly in both homey and professional settings.
Mission Style Hall Runner
Hall runners work great at accentuating hallways and softening up narrow spaces. If you’re searching for something unique in your home, how about mid century modern rugs? In addition to being a great fit, the linear pattern makes your hallway look longer and wider than it actually is. The dots, circles, and shapes also help break down the lines and add a touch of color to the brown rug.

Custom Rug Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Stained Glass
As we’ve already established, Frank Wright was a maestro with glass designs. Known for comparing glass to the mirrors of nature, he was famous for stringing panes of glass along entire walls. While this style has largely diminished in modern designs, who says you still can’t enjoy his works? Rug rats has recreated Wright’s best-known art glass in the form of a colorful, prairie style custom mission rug. The simple yet numerous geometric shapes are balanced out by repeated patterns and colors that create a playful effect in your hallway.
these stained glass windows are often called Light Screens.
Prairie Triangles Living Room Custom Rug
For some reason, the Prairie style is perfect for creating borders on your favorite rugs. No matter what material or color you want to go with, the Prairie triangles create an attractive border that you could get lost staring at. Keeping in line with Frank’s ideal for Prairie style, the design includes horizontal lines, hipped shapes and modest use of color. This rug is perfect for the study or as a subtle centrepiece in your living room.
Border design inspired by FLW’s Tree of Life Design
The Tree of Life is the most prominent design for stained glass made by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. In this design, Frank reduced a tree to its most elemental and geometric form. A square for the roots, straight lines for the trunk and chevrons for the branches. Rug Rats have incorporated this ancient symbol of life into the border of this custom hand-tufted wool rug for a prairie school style finish.
Mission Style Geometric Custom Rug
Yet another addition to the best Frank Lloyd Wright area rugs, this piece brings out all the essential elements of style and architecture that the designer was known for. In addition to the usual geometric shapes all through the rug, Rug rats got a bit creative with this one. We included angled lines and unique, false borders on either side. To keep in line with the professional and classy look, you’ll notice that no flashy colors have been used.
Custom Rug Inspired by Swatch of Wall to Wall Carpet Saved During the Arizona Biltmore Renovations
Even with Frank Wright gone, his work still lives on in both his students and creations. Crowned The Jewel of the Desert, the Arizona Biltmore was opened in 1929. The hotel was designed by Frank Wright’s student and had many on his influences through the design and interior. In 1979, the Arizona Biltmore underwent multimillion-dollar renovations under new ownership. This was a massive undertaking that saw numerous Frank Wright’s influences restored, including an old swatch of carpet block. Rug rats got their hand on the design and have created this unique, hand tufted rug as a tribute to the 1950’s Arizona Biltmore wall to wall carpet.
Prairie Triangles Hall Runner
The border design for this hall runner is very similar to our previous prairie style living room rug. The only difference is the deeper contrast created by using more color for the double triangles. You will also notice the use of shorter and more curved lines as opposed to the straight, geometric lines that comprise the prairie school style. An excellent choice for bringing your hallway to life.
Frank Lloyd Wright Circle Inspired Hand Tufted Custom Rug
For anyone who knew Frank Lloyd Wright, you could tell geometric shapes has a cosmic meaning to him. Even in his architecture, it’s clear to see that geometric forms were his building blocks. According to Frank, the triangle stood for structural unity while the square represented integrity. However, it was the circle that really embodied an array of elements. To Frank, the circle suggested infinity; the spire showed aspiration while the spiral represented nature’s organic process.
This is why this particular rug is special; because it incorporates most of Franks most favorite shapes. You’ve got squares, half triangles, and blocks in the background. But the circle remains the dominant geometric shape in this mission style rug. The vast variation of colors can instantly turn a dull room into a fun and vibrant living space.
