The Art of Interior design is the task of designing the interior of a Home, Office, Building, or Restaurant often including the exterior, of a room or building. Custom Rug Designs by Rugratsva offer Interior Designer renderings, drawing, and other specialized services used to complete the client design.
Sandy Henderson the founder of Rugratsva was drawn to materials and design. She wanted to explore how we can take charge of the beauty and happiness of her own homes.
In 1975, she earned her B.S. degree in Home Economics, with a specialty in Clothing and Textiles, from historic Longwood University (founded over two hundred years ago as a teachers’ college in Farmville, Virginia).
Sandy began to see that the market potential in custom and high-end custom rug designs was wide open. In 1987, she took the big step and started her own business, Rug Rats.

Every custom rug design we create reflects our careful attention to the needs of each individual client and our commitment to the quality of each project. We use three primary artisan techniques to hand-make our Custom Rugs:
Custom inlaid carpet is created by skillfully blending two or more pieces of carpet of almost unlimited colors, textures, and sizes into the desired pattern.
Carved carpet, the most dramatic and unique application of carpet available, is capturing the attention of everyone involved in the design of residential and commercial interiors. Virtually any Custom Rug Design which can be drawn on paper can be brought to life in the carpet.
Binding is done expertly in our Farmville, Virginia Facility on those carpets which, due to their configuration, cannot be bound by machine. Also, decorative 1″, 2″ and wider bindings with mitered corners are a beautiful addition to a very simple carpet.
