About the Marine Corps Eagle, Globe, and Anchor Emblem

The Eagle, Globe, and Anchor — the EGA — has been the official emblem of the United States Marine Corps since 1868. Each element carries a specific meaning:
The Eagle represents proud service to the nation.

The current EGA design was approved by Commandant Brigadier General Jacob Zeilin on November 19, 1868, and has remained largely unchanged for over 150 years.
