Custom Character Rugs — Made From Your Artwork
Rug Rats is a WBENC-Certified, WOSB-Certified woman-owned business that has been designing and manufacturing custom rugs in the USA since 1987. If you have artwork you own or have permission to use — a favorite character, hero, cartoon, sports figure, movie theme, video game design, or original illustration — we can turn it into a custom rug for your home, man cave, garage, playroom, or business.
Every custom character rug is made to order in the USA using commercial-grade materials that last for years. Send us your image, receive a free digital proof within 24 business hours, and your finished rug ships in approximately 2 weeks.
Rug Rats designs custom character-themed rugs across every visual category — superhero themes, comic book styles, sci-fi and space adventure looks, fantasy and mythology, cartoon and animated themes, video game aesthetics, retro and vintage pop-culture designs, and children’s storybook themes. Because every rug is made from your submitted artwork, we can produce nearly any character-inspired design you own the rights to, or a custom-illustrated look created just for your space. Woman-owned and WBENC-Certified, we’ve been designing custom rugs made to order in the USA since 1987.
Custom Character-Themed Rug Categories We Design
A custom character rug turns a favorite theme, mascot, or illustration into a floor-sized focal point. Rug Rats makes character-themed custom rugs for homes, children’s bedrooms, playrooms, game rooms, media rooms, offices, retail displays, and licensed brand activations. Every rug is made to order in your exact size, shape, and colors — starting from your artwork or a design our team helps develop.
- Superhero and comic book themes — costumed hero silhouettes, cape and shield motifs, comic-panel graphic design, action-scene compositions
- Sci-fi and space adventure themes — starship designs, planetary motifs, futuristic emblems, space-fleet insignia, spacefarer symbols
- Fantasy and mythology themes — dragons, wizards, castles, quest emblems, mythical creatures, medieval crests
- Cartoon and animated themes — bright color palettes, illustrated character-style artwork, animation-inspired scenes
- Video game themes — pixel-art rugs, retro arcade aesthetics, controller and game-console iconography, gamer battle-station designs
- Retro and vintage pop-culture — mid-century movie poster styles, vintage arcade motifs, nostalgic decade-themed designs
- Children’s storybook and nursery — friendly animals, gentle fantasy, alphabet and number rugs, playful geometry
- Music and rock-star themes — guitar silhouettes, drum-set layouts, vinyl-record motifs, stage-light patterns
- Custom-illustrated — original artwork developed with our design team, or your existing illustration turned into a rug
How Custom Character Rugs Work
Because character designs are typically owned by their creators or studios, Rug Rats produces custom character rugs only from artwork the customer supplies or is authorized to use. This includes:
- Your own original artwork or illustrations
- Fan art you have permission from the artist to reproduce
- Licensed artwork you have written authorization to use
- Sports team logos or mascots if you are the licensed reseller or authorized organization
- Custom character designs commissioned from an illustrator
When you request a quote, we will confirm the artwork source and ownership before starting the design proof. This protects both you and Rug Rats.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you sell rugs featuring Marvel, DC, Disney, Star Wars, or other trademarked characters?
Rug Rats does not sell ready-made rugs featuring trademarked characters. We produce custom character rugs only from artwork the customer supplies or is authorized to reproduce. If you have licensing rights, permission from the artist, or your own original character design, we can turn it into a rug.
Can I turn a photo of my favorite character into a rug?
Yes, if the image is either your own original artwork, artwork the creator has permitted you to use, or artwork you have licensing rights to reproduce. We will confirm the artwork source with you before starting the design proof.
What if I want a character-inspired design that isn't trademarked?
Original character designs, hand-drawn characters, custom fan art from independent artists, generic hero silhouettes, or “in the style of” designs that don’t reproduce a specific trademarked figure are all fine. Send us what you have and we’ll advise.
How long does a custom character rug take?
Free digital design proof within 24 business hours of receiving your artwork. Production is approximately 10 business days after your proof approval. Larger or more complex rugs may take 3-4 weeks. Shipping transit time is additional.
How much does a custom character rug cost?
Pricing depends on size, material, and complexity of the artwork. Starting at approximately $65 for a small character rug. Send us your artwork, desired size, and quantity for an exact quote.
Is there a minimum order?
No. We produce single character rugs for individuals as well as larger orders for organizations or events.
Are Rug Rats character rugs washable?
For DigiPrint HD character rugs, vacuum regularly for dry soils. For wet soils, extract or hose off. Use only a neutral, solvent-free cleaner. Prestige and DigiPrint HD-based character rugs are launderable in industrial-sized machines. Allow to dry thoroughly before returning to service.
