How Custom Character Rugs Work
Because character designs are typically owned by their creators or studios, Rug Rats produces custom character rugs only from artwork the customer supplies or is authorized to use. This includes:
- Your own original artwork or illustrations
- Fan art you have permission from the artist to reproduce
- Licensed artwork you have written authorization to use
- Sports team logos or mascots if you are the licensed reseller or authorized organization
- Custom character designs commissioned from an illustrator
When you request a quote, we will confirm the artwork source and ownership before starting the design proof. This protects both you and Rug Rats.

Custom character rugs are typically produced in our DigiPrint HD line — high-resolution digital printing that reproduces detailed artwork, gradients, and full-color character designs with photographic clarity. Your character design is printed directly into commercial-grade nylon carpet fibers with a nitrile rubber backing. For larger installations or premium hand-inlaid character silhouettes, Piazza construction is also available.

How to Order a Custom Character Rug
Step 1 — Send Your Artwork
Email your image, illustration, or artwork file to sandy@rugratsva.com. Include the size you want and where the rug will be used.
Step 2 — Confirm Artwork Source
For any recognizable character or trademarked design, we’ll confirm the artwork source with you. Original artwork, artist-permitted fan art, and licensed artwork are all welcome.
Step 3 — Review Your Free Design Proof
Within 24 business hours, we send a professional digital proof for your review. Approve or request revisions — revisions are free.
Step 4 — Production Begins
Once you approve the proof and payment is received, your custom character rug is manufactured in the USA. Most orders ship approximately 10 business days after approval.
Step 5 — Ships Directly to You
Your finished rug ships rolled in protective wrapping. Tracking information is provided when shipped.
